U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal has asked CONNSACS to assist in organizing a series of roundtable discussions with students, survivors, sexual assault victim advocates, campus staff and administrators to learn more about campus sexual violence in our state. Specifically he is interested in understanding more about the problem and what the federal government can do to further institutionalize best practices in primary prevention and response to victims, and increase transparency and compliance with federal law. The Senator was joined by Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro at the second roundtable held at Southern Connecticut State University.
Senator Blumenthal plans to take what he learns during the roundtables to report back to the White House Task Force to Protect Students from Sexual Assault, an initiative of President Obama that was announced with the release of his Council on Women and Girls report, Rape and Sexual Assault: A Renewed Call to Action.
