This webpage is designed to support survivors seeking to track their Sexual Assault Evidence Collection Kit or “Kit.”
Under state law, victims can track their Kit from the time it leaves the hospital to when it is analyzed by the State of Connecticut Forensic Science Laboratory. The paper you received from the hospital during evidence collection has a barcode unique to your Kit and can be used to log into the tracking site, giving you the ability to track your Kit privately.
At the time of evidence collection, victims can choose from the following options to designate their kit as anonymous, identified, or reported.
Anonymous: Victim does not want to report to law enforcement and does not want the Kit tested. The victim’s name is not included on the Kit and the Kit will be stored at Lab untested for at least five years.
Identified: Victim does not want to report to law enforcement but does want the Kit tested. The victim’s name is required to be included on the Kit and the Kit will be tested.
Reported: Victim has or will be immediately reporting to law enforcement and wants the Kit to be tested. The victim’s name is included on the Kit and the Kit will be tested.
Connecticut state law requires that a sexual assault crisis advocate be notified before a Kit is started; however, you can access a sexual assault crisis advocate at any time. Advocates are available 24/7 to support you at any events related to your case, such as at the hospital during evidence collection, at police interviews, and at court.
Call The Alliance’s free and confidential Sexual Assault Crisis Hotline to speak to be linked with an advocate. Call the statewide hotlines at 1-888-999-5545 (English) or 1-888-568-8332 (Español) or contact your local sexual assault crisis center listed under Alliance Member Centers.
Tracking Your Kit Online
Connecticut provides an online system to track your Kit while it goes through the testing process. During your time at the hospital, you should have received a piece of paper containing your tracking number and step-by-step instructions on how to login to the tracking system.
Please note that the tracking system only provides information about the location, testing and DNA database entry of DNA from the Kit. No information about the investigation or the perpetrator(s) will be available in the tracking system. This information must be obtained through law enforcement. The law enforcement agency from the town or city where the crime occurred is responsible for transporting the Kit to the Connecticut Forensic Science Laboratory and any resulting crime investigation.
For Kits collected on or after October 1, 2025: The tracking information for your kit will be present on the Track-Kit website. See below.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I check my Kit if I never received a barcode?
Current: If your kit was done before the tracking software was available, approximately Fall 2016, contact the SAKI Victim Notification Coordinator at saki@endsexualviolencect.org for more information. Please put “Where is my SAK?” as the subject line. You can also contact the State Forensic Lab at DSS.SAKTracking@CT.gov and request your barcode. Provide your name and the date and hospital your kit was collected at and they can help determine your kit barcode.
I lost the instructions to my log-in, what do I do now?
Please reach out to DSS.SAKTracking@CT.gov and they will provide guidance on how to obtain your barcode and password to access your kit.
Is the tracking of my Kit confidential?
Yes! The only people who have access to the information are hospital staff and possibly police and the forensic lab. The hospital, lab, and law enforcement cannot share information on your kit with anyone without your consent. The Track-Kit website is a “Quick Exit” site that allows you to hit the exit button and it redirects to google.com. It is also free of any identifying features or logos that would indicate it is for sexual assault kits and provides information on the home screen for how to clear your cache and browsing history.
If you are concerned about the confidentiality of your Kit, we recommend that you only track your Kit on your personal computer, do not save your username and password and delete history on your computer.
What information is available when I track my Kit?
The tracking software should tell you:
- when the Kit was used to perform an exam;
- which police department was notified to pick up the Kit;
- when police submitted the Kit to the Connecticut Forensic Science Laboratory for testing or storage;
- when the Connecticut Forensic Science Laboratory completed the testing;
- whether DNA obtained from the testing was entered into the Connecticut DNA data bank or the national DNA data bank (CODIS); and
- whether the sample derived from the Kit matched a profile in any DNA data bank (CODIS Hit).
I had my Kit done anonymously and am now ready to report to law enforcement. How do I do this?
Anonymous Kits are stored for at least five years at the Connecticut Forensic Science Laboratory. After five years, they are returned to the police department untested. To begin the process, you will need to contact the police department from the location where the crime took place and file a police report. Alert them to the fact that your Kit was anonymous and provide the kit barcode number, if possible. When needed, law enforcement can work with the Connecticut Forensic Science Laboratory to locate your Kit.
How does the statute of limitations impact my Kit?
On October 1, 2019, the Connecticut criminal statute of limitations, or the time allowed to report, for most sexual assault crimes was changed to 20 years for adults and only affects cases that occurred after October 1, 2014. Additionally, as of October 1, 2019, the criminal statute of limitations was eliminated for sexual offenses wherein the victim is under the age of 18, and the statute was extended to 30 years from the victim’s 21st birthday in cases where the victim was aged 19-21 during the time of the assault.

Statute of Limitations Examples
- Carol was sexually assaulted in 2010. The statute of limitations expired for Carol in 2015. Her case cannot move forward.
- Jennis was sexually assaulted in 2015. Because the criminal statute of limitations was extended to 20 years while his reporting period was still open he now has until 2035 to report his assault. (20 years from the date of the assault).
