Mission:
The Alliance is the statewide coalition of sexual assault crisis service programs working to end sexual violence through victim assistance, community education, and public policy advocacy. The mission of Connecticut Alliance to End Sexual Violence is to create communities free of sexual violence and to provide culturally affirming, trauma-informed advocacy, prevention, and intervention services centered on the voices of survivors.
The Policy Coordinator is a full-time position with benefits. This position reports to the Executive Director.
Essential Functions:
- Review federal and state regulations and administrative policies that impact sexual violence survivors and develop coalition-wide recommendations for policies, protocols and guidance to support survivors, Alliance membership, and community partners
- Coordinate The Alliance’s efforts to develop, guide and strengthen priority policy areas including improving systems and individual responses to sexual violence, increasing and maintaining the rights of survivors, and ensuring all survivors in Connecticut have access to justice, healing and support
- Assist the Executive Director and the Alliance’s contract lobbyist in developing legislative and administrative policy recommendations, identifying priority issues, and setting annual policy agenda
- Ensure ongoing communication with The Alliance’s membership regarding policy and create mechanisms to ensure maximum membership involvement in The Alliance’s policy agenda
- Work with the Executive Director and the Alliance team to help develop and implement annual communications plan that supports print, online and ad-hoc organizational communications including The Alliance’s policy work
- Build support for Alliance initiatives among community stakeholders, state lawmakers and state officials
- Represent The Alliance on state committees, task forces and coalitions, and provide training and presentations about Alliance initiatives as needed
- Perform other job‐related duties as assigned by the Executive Director
Education and Years of Experience:
- Masters in related field and at least 3 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Qualifications:
- Successful experience in public speaking and media relations
- Demonstrated experience in issue-based campaigns, public policy advocacy or lobbying
- Demonstrated experience working with victims of crime, trauma survivors or other communities impacted by violence
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Excellent analytical skills
- Ability to develop and maintain cooperative relationships with diverse and active groups
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities
- Ability to accurately update and maintain records
- Valid driver’s license and vehicle required
Work Environment:
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
Travel:
Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected.
Additional Information:
The successful candidate must acquire and maintain Sexual Assault Crisis Counselor/Advocate Certification within the first six months of employment.
