We can only provide representation to victims of sexual assault. We will prioritize cases where a victim is in imminent danger.
Our team can provide legal information about victims’ rights, options, and processes, legal resources or referrals, or legal representation.
Our legal services are free of charge.
Any information you share with us is strictly confidential and will not be shared with anyone. We are not mandated reporters.
For non-immigration cases: VRCCT can only accept cases where the crime occurred in Connecticut; however, clients do not need to live in Connecticut.
For immigration cases: VRCCT can only provide legal services in T-visa, U-visa, and VAWA petition cases to victims who reside in Connecticut.
We do not provide defense representation to defendants in criminal matters, represent victims in personal injury or tort cases, or provide legal representation on dissolution/divorce, post-judgment child custody, or public benefits matters.
VRCCT does not allow third parties to attend or participate in attorney and client consultations or meetings (third parties include advocates, counselors, partners, parents of victims 18 and older, friends, etc.). A written Release of Information may be completed for a third party so that we can have separate communication with or without the client present. We cannot confirm or deny any information, including to a referral provider, until we have a completed and signed VRCCT-specific Release of Information. VRCCT cannot accept any provider release forms. Verbal releases of information cannot be used under any circumstances.
If you are completing this intake/referral on behalf of a client or another person, after submitting, please share our intake/referral phone line and email address with them and let them know that we encourage them to call within three business days to confirm that we have received their completed intake/referral form.
Please note that VRCCT currently has limited capacity to offer full representation in educational/Title IX matters, employment/Commission on Human Rights & Opportunities (CHRO) matters, and immigration matters, but we may be able to offer other legal assistance.
Our intake and referral process takes approximately two weeks for our team to properly assess the case and determine whether we can provide full or partial representation. If the legal need is time-sensitive, please indicate that on the form and include the date of any upcoming scheduled events.
We do not return missed calls. If you would like us to get back to you, please leave us a voicemail or text message with a safe number at which we can reach you.
We look forward to working with you,
The VRCCT Team
